Unicorn Athletic v Chadderton Cott

6.15pm  9 April 2019

Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League, Division A
Unicorn Athletic 1 Chadderton Cott 5 (att 10)

Apparently 9 April is National Unicorn Day. Whatever that means (not a lot I guess) it didn't bring any good fortune for Unicorn Athletic, other than Chadderton Cott not scoring as many goals as they might have done.

The visitors are unbeaten in the league and after a dominant display that record was never in doubt. They scored early, added two more before half time, and another couple of goals in the second half.

They should have score more, and the referee ruled out one goal for an offside that looked dubious to me. Unicorn netted the last goal of the game, but by then it was nothing more than a consolation and Chadderton Cott had eased off.

Unicorn are a long-established club that concentrates on youth football. They have their own ground, Smiths Field in Timperley, and it's not a bad venue. There's a single pitch, with changing rooms behind the goal in a building painted in club colours.
