Tranmere Rovers U18 v Carlisle United U18

11am  6 April 2019

EFL Youth Alliance, North West
Tranmere Rovers U18 3 Carlisle United U18 2 (att 29)

This turned out to be a much better game than the league table promised. Both sides are mid table with little to play for, and neither had managed many goals, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable 90 minutes.

Tranmere were ahead early but it wasn't long before Carlisle equalised. The home side regained their advantage but were once again pegged back by the resilient visitors, and that was all in an action-packed first half.

The second period was calmer, and this time Carlisle were unable to equalise after falling behind for the third time and final time.

Tranmere's youth team have had various home venues in recent years, and are now based at the club's new training centre in Wallasey. The Solar Campus has a large playing field behind imposing school buildings.

Like most youth team grounds it's basic for spectators, but about two-thirds of one touchline were roped off to indicate the area where those of us watching were able to stand and watch.
