Holyhead Town v Llanerchymedd

6.30pm  11 April 2019

Welsh Alliance, Division Two
Holyhead Town 1 Llanerchymedd 2 (att 110)

With my car passing its MOT earlier in the day I had plenty of time for the drive to Anglesey to recomplete the Welsh Alliance at Holyhead Town's Mill Bank ground.

Like the town itself, Mill Bank is functional rather than pretty. There's no cover for spectators unless they sneak into either of the large dugouts, but the pitch is railed off and sits inside the oval of what was once an athletics track.

A local derby against fellow Anglesey side Llanerchymedd brought out a decent crowd, and after a slow start it wasn't a bad game.

There were few chances in a goalless first half, but the deadlock was broken by the home side with just over an hour played. The goal was a little against the run of play, but Llanerchymedd were soon level, and two minutes later they went in front.

Holyhead's hopes of getting point faded when they had a player sent off with 15 minutes left. They played the final moments with just nine men, after another red card and an injury as the game went into stoppage time.
