Bristol Churches League, Division Two
Edge Church Pistols 7 Hartcliffe Saints 1 (att 19)
Just the second time I watched a game in Bristol's Saturday morning league, but I didn't get off to a great start when there was no sign of a match about to take place 15 minutes before the start of my planned game.
I diverted to Little Stoke Playing Fields, arriving about a minute before scheduled kick off and relieved to see two sets of players warming up. The action began a few minutes late, but it didn't take Edge Church long to make the game safe.
They dominated their struggling opponents from the off, and were 6-0 up by the time the referee blew for half time. Hartcliffe at least had the satisfaction of drawing the second half, and scoring a terrific overhead kick to reduce the arrears before the home side got their seventh.
Edge Church's win should see them promoted. Whether they can still win the title depends in part on what happened to the game I'd hoped to watch, which featured the side top of the table away to the team bottom.
Venue for the game that did take place was pitch number two at Little Stoke Playing Fields. The main pitch, railed off with dugouts, is home to Little Stoke FC. Edge Church's pitch was right next door.
