Ilminster Town v Nailsea United

2pm  13 April 2019

Somerset County League, Premier Division
Ilminster Town 3 Nailsea United 2 (att 60)

Ilminster Town are settling into their newish home, which is just a couple of hundred yards from their old pitch that I visited 25 years ago. The former pitch is still in use, and was staging a game at the same time as this match.

It was a busy day for Ilminster Town, as the first team kicked off early to accommodate their reserves on the same pitch afterwards. It was perfect for me, as it meant I could also get to a late afternoon kick off at another ground a short drive away.

With so much going on there was a good crowd in the ground, which has a nice clubhouse behind the goal and a pitch that is neatly railed off, has dugouts and plenty of advertising boards. I assume that a stand and floodlights can be added at some point, allowing the club to progress more easily than they could have done at their former home.

The game was a slow burner, between two sides in mid table with little to play for. The visitors got the only goal of a tight first half, but early in the second period Ilminster scored twice to go in front.

A third goal, a penalty, gave Ilminster what proved to be the decisive goal, although Nailsea made the final few minutes uncomfortable for their hosts when they pulled a late goal back.
