Norristhorpe v North Leeds

2pm  15 May 2021

Yorkshire Amateur League, Division Two
Norristhorpe 3 North Leeds 0 (att 7)

I'm a Leicester City supporter, so my most important game of the day wasn't going to be the one I chose to watch from the touchline.

My criteria for picking a fixture was simple, any new ground close enough to home to guarantee being back indoors in time for kick off at Wembley. Matches in Manchester were thin on the ground so I headed across the Pennines.

Norristhorpe play in the Ravensthorpe area of Dewsbury. Their home ground, Crawshaw Playing Fields, has been used by a number of different clubs over the years.

Officially, access to the ground is from the end of Tanhouse Street, but with the changing rooms out of bounds due to the pandemic, and the car park barrier closed, players changed in cars that were lined alongside the pitch in Park Road.

There are two full-size football pitches at the ground, neither roped nor railed off. There is a railed pitch on the other side of Park Road, although it looks unused. The set up has a rural feel, being on the edge of Dewsbury Country Park.

On the pitch it was a simple enough win for Norristhorpe thanks to a trio of first half goals, one of them a penalty. A 3-0 half time deficit was harsh on North Leeds, but they had the consolation of not conceding in the second period.

It was an enjoyable game, despite the near constant rain and the fact that my mind was at least partly-focused on the FA Cup Final to follow. Fortunately that proved to be an enjoyable game as well.
