Fairbank United v Lepton Highlanders

6.30pm  26 May 2021

Yorkshire Amateur League, Division One
Fairbank United 6 Lepton Highlanders 0 (att 10)

Based on the league table this result, and certainly the size of the scoreline, was a major surprise. Fairbank are towards the bottom while Lepton are within sight of the top.

To be fair to Lepton it's a tricky journey to get to the Bradford suburb of Allerton for an evening game. The match kicked off a few minutes late, and the visitors had limited time to warm up.

But they never got going and were thoroughly outplayed by Fairbank. The home side looked good and played some neat football. On this performance their lowly league position is baffling.

Three goals in each half decided the outcome. Having established a healthy lead Fairbank defended solidly and repeatedly hit Lepton on the break. They might have added further goals.

Fairbank are based at Dixons Allerton Academy. Their pitch is part of the school playing field, and quite a hike from the car park. There is a 3G pitch, but Fairbank play on grass.

There's no facilities, as you'd expect at this level, but a steep grass bank on one side provides an elevated vantage point, as well as a view of central Bradford.

  1. Hi Steve, thank you for visiting us!. The 3G pitch is not FA approved, so no matches can take place as it invalidated insurance.

Due to covid restrictions changing rooms within the school were unavailable.

Lepton beat us convincingly at their place, and had a much changed line up. Midweek matches are always difficult to get to and work commitments cause issues. We ourselves had a few players missing.

Hope you enjoyed the game 🙂
