Team Solent v New Milton Town

7.45pm  16 March 2015

Wessex League, Division One
Team Solent 3 New Milton Town 2 (att 50)

Team Solent are mostly made up of students from Southampton Solent University, and are currently top of the Wessex League's second tier. They survived a spirited late comeback by visitors New Milton to remain on course for promotion.

The students played some great football from the off, and it wasn't long before they had a comfortable, and deserved, 2-0 lead. A third goal followed before half time and it looked to be game over.

But New Milton matched their hosts after the break. They pulled a goal back, which looked to be no more than a consolation, but after a late second goal they were bossing the game, and would have earned a point in stoppage time but were denied when a long-range strike came back off the post.

Team Solent's Test Park ground is fairly new, but was far better than the soulless sports centre venue I'd anticipated. There's a pair of seated stands that look rather different from the usual kit stands erected at ground these days, and there's a flat hard standing around the rest of the enclosed arena. Just outside the turnstyle entrance there a clubhouse with refreshments available.
