Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur League, Strathclyde Cup 2nd Round
Southside 4 Shawbridge 1 (att 18)
Despite being a "morning" league this cup tie was a noon kick off, which suited my plans perfectly as long as it was settled in 90 minutes.
I thought the prospects of a drawn game were slim when Premier Division Shawbridge took a 5th minute lead against their Division Two hosts, but I hadn't realised just how good Southside were.
The opening goal had been against the run of play and, apart from that moment, Southside dominated the match. Their league playing record, seven wins from seven games and 42 goals scored, should have warned me that this would no stroll in the park for the higher ranked side.
If anything it was a stroll in the park, or at least in the 3G cage, for Southside. Shawbridge defended their lead well, and held out until the 54th minute. Having drawn level, the outcome was inevitable, and Southside romped home scoring three more.
Southside's home venue, also home to Shawbridge incidentally, is the impressive Toryglen Regional Football Centre, close to Hampden Park. There are five football pitches, numbers one to three are separate caged 3G grounds, number four is grass, but didn't appear to marked for football at present, and number five is a full-sized indoor pitch, with seats down one side.
No seats on pitch three, where Southside played Shawbridge, but plenty of room for spectators to stand inside the fence.
