7.30pm 4 March 2015
Staffordshire County Senior League, Division One
Leek County School Old Boys 4 Keele University 0 (att 55)
Having shared Leek Town's stadium for many years, Leek CSOB have taken up residence at new venue this season, and I was surprised to learn that floodlights have already been installed.
This was club's first midweek game under the lights, and while the new ground, Pointon Park, is a work in progress, a decent ground looks to be taking shape. It's actually a few miles south of Leek, in the village of Cheddleton.
At present the pitch is roped off, but the ground is enclosed, there's dugouts and a tea bar that provided refreshments and - perhaps as a one-off due to the number of groundhoppers in attendance - teamsheets.
With the change of ground causing the club to drop from the North West Counties League to the second tier of their county league, CSOB are on course for a swift promotion to the top flight. They had no problems seeing off the students from Keele.
The home side scored early, then added another just seconds into the second half. Moments later the floodlights went out. Thankfully, after a delay of 10 minutes or so, they were successfully fired up again, and CSOB added two more goals before the final whistle.
