6.15pm 10 April 2013
Sheffield County Senior League, Premier Division
Davy 1 Shaw Lane Aqua Force Barnsley 2 (att 24)
Table-topping Shaw Lane and relegation-threatened Davy provided an excellent 80 minutes' entertainment, the game reduced to two 40 minute halves due to fading light, although with time added for stoppages it wasn't far off 90 minutes anyway.
Davy FC owe their unusual name to the adjacent Davy Markham engineering factory, and their home ground is "pitch 1" at the Davy Sports Ground. The second pitch, on the far side of a cricket square, is home, this season at least, to fellow Senior League side Sheffield Bankers. The pitch is roped off, and the large social club provides an imposing backdrop.
The first half was goalless, but entertaining, with the visitors looking more likely to break the deadlock. Soon after the break it was Davy who went ahead, thanks to a terrific shot from distance. They held the lead for barely a minute before Shaw Lane were level, and the visitors eventually went ahead, holding their lead despite a late surge from Davy, who struck a post in stoppage time.
