Bacup Cricket Club v Burnley Belvedere

6.15pm  3 April 2013

East Lancashire League, Division Two
Bacup Cricket Club 1 Burnley Belvedere 2 (att 13)

A scrappy game on a bitingly cold evening at Fearns Community Sports College in Stacksteads, a couple of miles up the road from Bacup.

Promotion-chasing Belvedere always had the edge, but it took a second half penalty for them to score the game's opening goal, early in the second half. Their lead didn't last long, as a free kick put Bacup level just three minutes later. The visitors weren't to be denied though, and they deserved their winning goal.

I don't know where Bacup's Cricket Club is based, but their football team play on an unroped pitch at Fearns College. Getting pitchside is a bit of trek, following a maze through college buildings, a path past a floodlit 3G pitch, and then across a second, smaller, artificial pitch.

There's only one grass pitch at the venue, and it feels enclosed being hemmed in between the all-weather pitches on one side and the fence separating the ground from the road on the other.
