Sale Town v Egerton

6.45pm  21 August 2013

Cheshire League, Division Two
Sale Town 4 Egerton 2 (att 30)

For the second Tuesday evening in a row I watched an entertaining good quality Cheshire League match, this time at the Banky Lane home of newcomers Sale Town.

There's been no lack of incident in Sale's opening matches this season, and they picked up a red card tonight while beating an Egerton side who will be wondering how they managed to lose.

Sale scored early, and led 2-1 after a decent  first half. After the break it was backs to the wall as, reduced to 10 men, they somehow withstood pressure from the visitors. Sale's excellent keeper made some great saves, before eventually being beaten on the rebound from a penalty he'd just saved.

From there Egerton should have gone on to win the game, but instead Sale, who showed great commitment throughout, managed to score twice.

The Banky Lane ground, just off the Carrington Spur from Manchester's M60 orbital motorway, is a good venue for this level. The pitch runs widthways in front of a spacious modern clubhouse. The clubhouse side is railed off, with dugouts, while the remainder of the pitch is roped off.
