Church Fenton White Horse v Garforth WMC

6.15pm  12 August 2013

Barkston Ash FA, Prostar Cup, Semi Final
Church Fenton White Horse 0 Garforth Working Men's Club 0,  4-2 on penalties (att 40)

With a place in a cup final at stake there was plenty of effort, but not much good football and it was no surprise that it ended goalless.

A late free kick for Church Fenton, well struck but straight at the visiting keeper, may well have been the only shot on target in the 90 minutes. Thankfully, competition rules are that drawn games go straight to penalties, so we were spared extra time that would almost certainly have remained goalless.

Church Fenton White Horse, from the York League's second tier, always looked the slightly better of the two teams. Garforth WMC, from the Wakefield League, apparently lost on penalties to the same team in last year's semi final.

The ground is next to the village's cricket ground on the main road through Church Fenton. It's better than I'd expected, both ends and one touchline fully railed off, but the far side, which backs onto an open field, is unenclosed.
