Welsh Alliance, Division Two
Greenfield 3 Halkyn United 0 (att 263)
First game of the Bank Holiday weekend's Welsh Alliance hop, and as the only oneof the 11 venues I'd not been to it was handy for me that it was the Friday evening game, and just about reachable after work through the rush hour traffic.
I thought it was a decent game, although the atmosphere at hop matches is always a little odd with so many neutrals making up the crowd.
The scoreline looks like a comfortable evening for Greenfield, but the result flattered them, and Halkyn were the better side for much of the match. Greenfield's keeper was in inspired form, making some great saves.
Halkyn's keeper looked at fault as Greenfield forced home a corner for the game's opening goal in the first half. A penalty doubled the lead with 20 minutes left, and a third goal towards end made the points save.
Mainetti Park, which seems to be a new name for the old Courtaulds ground, is the third home ground I've seen Greenfield at. They seem to have settled on this as a permanent venue, and progress is being made turning into a decent ground.
At present it's just an enclosed pitch with dugouts, but there's some hard standing for spectators and some areas around the pitch looks to have been recently cleared of overgrown vegetation. It's not the most scenic of north Wales football grounds, but the adjacent factory building at least provides a memorable backdrop.
