Liverpool County Premier League, Premier Division
Sacre Coeur FP 1 Essemmay Old Boys 2 (att 26)
As usual in the Liverpool County Premier League's top division, there was a good standard of football on display, but sadly for much of it the two teams cancelled eachother out. The one clear highlight was Essemmay's last minute winner, a clinical finish rounding of a swift attack with plenty of quick and accurate passing.
It was a win the visitors deserved, having been the slightly better of the two sides. They went ahead in the first half, but a goalkeeping error midway through the second presented Sacre Coeur with an equaliser. After that the game opened up, as both sides looked for a winner, before Essemmay got it just before the end.
Sacre Couer FP are among a handful of clubs based at a commercial five-a-side football complex, Playfootball.com, in what was previously the Civil Service Sports Ground at Thornton, on the edge of Liverpool.
I saw Warbreck play here back in 2002, when it was still a Civil Service ground. There's several full-sized pitches, and I returned tonight as one of them (not the one I'd seen Warbreck on) has been railed off.
I assumed the railed pitch would stage Sacre Couer's Premier Division games, but apparently the playing area is too small, so Sacre Couer play instead on a pitch on the far side of the complex (itself clumsily lengthened, leaving extra white line markings). Slightly frustrating as I'd still like to see a game on the railed pitch, but at least tonight's was on a different pitch to my last visit ... so another new ground for me.
