Bradwell v Tunstall Town

15 August 2011
Staffordshire County Senior League, Division Two
Bradwell 9 Tunstall Town 0 (att 30)

You have to admire the perseverance on Tunstall Town. I'm not sure when they last won a Staffs County Senior League match, if they ever have in the few years they've been in the league, and tonight's nine goal defeat might even end up as one of their better results by the end of the season.

Given the age of a few of their players, they do well to keep playing for 90 minutes - I know I couldn't, and at 43 I'd probably bring down the team's average age if I made the starting line up.

Not a lot to say about the game itself, such a one-sided game doesn't make for great entertainment. Bradwell opened the scoring in the first minute, were three up at half time. As is almost always the case with scorelines like this, they should have scored several more, and Tunstall's keeper was probably their best player (until he was surprisingly substituted with about 15 minutes to go).

Bradwell's home venue is actually the home ground of a local Sunday side, Willaston White Star, and is quite a nice set-up. The ground is fully enclosed, the pitch was roped off and there's dugouts and a good-sized covered standing area set back from the pitch behind goal nearest the entrance.

As for Tunstall Town, they achieved some sort of infamy earlier this year, and were even featured in The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/mar/14/tunstall-town-worst-oldest-team
