20 August 2011 (2.30)
Mid Wales League, Division Two
Abermule 3 Llanfylin Town 0 (att 26)
First of two games today, amid the splendid scenery of mid Wales, with a visit to St Harmon's 6pm kick off to follow.
This was an entertaining if rather low key afternoon. The "crowd" was almost non existent at the scheduled kick off, little more than me and another groundhopper who'd travelled from Essex. Perhaps the locals knew something we didn't, as the game didn't get underway until nearly 10 minutes late.
Abermule dominated the first half, and deserved the two goal lead they established by half time. After the break Llanfyllin were much better, hitting the crossbar three times, but it was the home side who scored the half's only goal.
The ground is neat and tidy, with a small covered standing area on the far side from the entrance, flanked by dugouts. There was no formal admission charge, but a friendly club official collected donations from spectators.
