Shepley v Holmbridge

6.15pm  7 April 2022

Huddersfield and District League, Division One
Shepley 2 Holmbridge 10 (att 16)

If ever there was a game of two halves this was it. The first 45 minutes were fairly even, and it was 2-2 by the break, before Holmbridge ran away with it in the second period.

The visitors had looked the sharper side. They scored early, and when Shepley equalised it was just moments before Holmbridge went back in front. They couldn't hold the lead though so the teams were level at half time.

Perhaps it was the interval team talk, perhaps Holmbridge enjoyed playing down the slope at Shepley Recreation Ground, but whatever the reason they rattled in eight unanswered second half goals.

Shepley is a village on the southern outskirts of Huddersfield. The ground is just a pitch, but it's a pleasant one with a handful of benches surrounding the perimeter. The club has a link to nearby Emley AFC, at least according to the sign on the changing rooms building.
