English Bicknor v Quedgeley Wanderers

3pm  9 April 2022

Gloucestershire County League
English Bicknor 1 Quedgeley Wanderers 1 (att 72)

I don't know the local politics but apparently this was not just English Bicknor's final home fixture of the season but the last time they'll play in the village, having been forced to vacate the ground.

They signed off with a point that keeps alive their slim hope of escaping the bottom two places and avoiding relegation.

Both goals were scored before half time. English Bicknor went ahead with what was officially awarded as an own goal, but Gloucester-based Quedgeley hit back to level.

English Bicknor is a village on the edge of the Forest of Dean. The football club are based, until now at least, on a pitch next to the village hall. Improvements were made following last season's promotion to the county league, making their move away even more more baffling.

The pitch is fully railed off, there's plenty of advertising boards and a pair of dugouts on the far side. There was a good turnout of local supporters as well. It'll be a shame if their club does have to move, but it they do they'll hopefully thrive in a new home.
