AFC Knowsley v Garswood United

6.30pm  12 April 2022

Cheshire League, Premier Division
AFC Knowsley 1 Garswood United 1 (att 38)

A lot has changed since I visited the Lord Derby Playing Fields in May 2016. Knowsley South FC have become AFC Knowsley, and their park pitch venue has been turned into an excellent football facility.

The first team pitch, fully enclosed and with dugouts and advertising boards, is different from the pitch they played on back in their Warrington League days. It's served by a new pavilion, behind the goal close to the car park.

The renamed club apparently have ambitions to climb the leagues, and their revamped home ground provides a solid base for them to progress.

They won't be going up this season though, and a point from this fixture keeps them on track for an upper mid-table finish. It was a good quality game, as usual in this league, but clear chances were few.

AFC Knowsley went ahead before half time, Garswood levelled after the break. A draw was a fair outcome on the balance of play, but it wasn't a game to linger long in the memory.
