West Riding County Amateur League, Division Two
Honley 3 Golcar United reserves 1 (att 40)
I'd read a suggestion that Honley are considering a new home ground for next season, and from that I saw tonight they could certainly do with one.
They've suffered a series of weather-related postponements this season, and lost a recent home fixture because the referee was unhappy at extra markings on the pitch. The markings, for an athletics track, are still there, but fortunately tonight's referee was happy to proceed.
Honley produced some good football, despite the playing surface not helping their passing game, and should have won this match more convincingly.
They took an early lead, and led 2-0 at half time, Golcar started the second half well, quickly pulling a goal back, but it didn't take long before Honley scored their third. The home side created more chances, but failed to take them.
Honley's pitch is part of a large playing field. The touchline nearest the changing rooms was roped off for tonight's game, but there's no facilities for spectators.

Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate your feedback on this blog and also the non-league site. It sounds like you enjoyed the game tonight and you are spot on with the state of the pitch. Very frustrating as we've not been informed ourselves of the markings prior to them being laid.
We are in a position where we have to erect a barrier each game at the moment, so on a Saturday this covers 3/4 of the pitch, but with time pressures, mid-week we were only able to cover the home line.
Likewise with programmes, due to costs and time, we only print programmes on a Saturday at the moment.
We really appreciate the comments and will use them to strive to improve the match day experience for both players and spectators as we hope to develop and learn as a club.
We acknowledge that we are still very much grass roots, whom are dipping a toe into higher level football, but enjoying doing so.
With regard to new pitch/facilities..... watch this space :)

Thanks for your comments. I did enjoy the game, and I was impressed by Honley's football.
ReplyDeleteI know it takes a lot of effort to stage games at this level, so I certainly wasn't complaining about the pitch barrier or lack of a programme. Good luck for the rest of the season, and for 2015/16.
We managed to squeeze through and end up at the top of the table. Real great thanks to anyone that has had an interest in our team this season. Thank you.
