North East Wales League, Championship
Sychdyn 2 Caerwys 3 (att 25)
I'm unsure why Sychdyn have vacated the ground in the village where I saw them play in 2013, but this season their home has been in nearby Northop Hall.
It's a venue that's been used by other clubs in the past, including a long-gone Northop Hall FC. I'd never managed to visit previously so, with Sychdyn's social media suggesting they're relocating to Rhydymwyn, seeing a game there this season became a priority.
This wasn't a bad fixture to choose. Visitors Caerwys are top of the league and unbeaten, while Sychdyn needed a win to retain any realistic chance of catching them.
The visitors scored the only goal of a scrappy first half, and could have been further ahead by the break. They doubled their lead in the second period and looked comfortable.
They looked a little less comfortable when Sychdyn made it 2-1, but hopes of a home comeback diminished when Caerwys responded four minutes later with a third goal.
It was a lively second half, as not long later the hosts netted again to set up a good finish. They piled on the pressure but were unable to level the score.
The ground at Northop Hall, the Llys Ben Playing Field, has a railed off main pitch with a car park and pavilion. It's a good venue in terms of facilities but the quality of the pitch was poor and didn't help the players.
