Yorkshire Amateur League, Hancock Cup Semi-Final at Bodington Football Hub
Norristhorpe 2 Thornesians 1 (att 30)
Leeds University's new Bodington Football Hub is the venue for the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Amateur League's various cup competitions.
The Hancock Cup is for teams in the league's third, fourth and fifth levels, and tier three Norristhorpe saw off fifth tier Thornesians for a place in the final.
Norristhorpe were the better side and scored the first half's only goal. Their failure to extend their lead looked costly when Thornesians seized on a goalkeeping error to level 20 minutes from time.
Remarkably, Thornesians' run to the last four had been achieved without actually winning a game. A first round bye was followed by a second round walkover then and two drawn matches won on penalties. Hopes of another shootout were ended by Norristhorpe's winner with 10 minutes left.
The Bodington Football Hub opened this season and is the new home for Leeds University FC. It's close to Weetwood, where I saw the university team play a Yorkshire Amateur League fixture earlier in the season.
There's a trio of floodlit 3G pitches, each with spectator access on one side and spacious dugouts opposite. This game was on 'pitch one', which I believe is the pitch used by Leeds University FC.
