Merseyside Christian League
Bridge Chapel 12 St Vincent de Paul 2 (att 11)
This was just my second experience of Merseyside's Saturday morning league, having already been to most of the venues used by its single division of 13 teams.
Bridge Chapel play at Liverpool University's Wyncote Sports Ground. It's a ground I've twice seen games at before, but neither of those were on the 3G pitch used for this fixture.
The caged pitch is adjacent to an artificial hockey pitch, which covers the former grass pitch where I saw Liverpool University against Sheffield Hallam in 2004. I returned for another university match in 2010, seeing Liverpool take on Chester on 'pitch one'.
The 3G is typical of such set-ups. It's floodlit and there's a spectator area running the full length of one side.
It's hard to judge the quality of a league, or of teams, from a single match, especially when it's as one-sided as this, but Bridge Chapel made the most of the smooth surface to play some good football.
Two very early goals set them up for an easy win. They'd extended their lead to 7-0 by the time St Vincent de Paul pulled one back with a penalty that was the final kick of the first half.
More goals flowed after the break, the last of which made it a dozen for Bridge Chapel and was immediately followed by the final whistle.
From Liverpool I headed to a title decider between Penyffordd Lions and Connah's Quay Town. On arrival it was clear the pitch at Leeswood, uncut and unmarked, wasn't fit for the stage the game.
An alternative venue, at nearby Mynydd Isa, was quickly found, and I watched as Connah's Quay's 1-0 win meant they overtook Penyffordd to win the North East Wales League's second tier. But it wasn't a new ground for me, having seen a match there in 2001. And this blog is just for my visits to new grounds.
