Harrogate and District League, Premier Division
Bramhope 2 Hampsthwaite 3 (att 10)
It's increasingly common for end of season dead rubber fixtures like this not to be played, so credit to the clubs and the league for this match going ahead as scheduled.
It was the final game of the division, and whatever the outcome neither side was going to move league position. Despite that, and despite the home side having a random pre-game draw to allocate who played where, this was a decent encounter.
I assume the Bramhope keeper wasn't part of the positional lottery, or if he was he ought to retain the number one jersey for next season. He pulled off a string a good saves, including a second half penalty, to keep his side in the game.
Ultimately his efforts were in vain, as Hampsthwaite ran out deserved winners. They had a two goal lead which was pegged back to 2-1 by half time, but a goal apiece after the break settled the outcome.
Bramhope's footballers are based at West Park Leeds rugby union ground. It's a very impressive set up, including a main pitch with a seated stand. Football is played on 'pitch five', in distant a corner of the complex.
