6.30pm 20 August 2019
West Lancashire League, Premier Division
Lytham Town 3 Slyne with Hest 1 (att 40)
Lytham Town have taken temporary residence at the BAE Warton sports ground for this season, which is handy for me as I never made it when what was then British Aerospace Warton had a West Lancashire League team of its own.
These days they play Sunday league football, but the ground is more than adequate to stage 'step seven' games, with changing rooms close to a pitch that was roped off along the near touchline and has a pair of dugouts.
The far side of the pitch borders the BAE airfield, but I didn't sport any aircraft taking off or landing during the 90 minutes.
Not that it mattered, as there was plenty to see on the pitch. Slyne with Hest took an early lead from a penalty but it was 1-1 by half time.
The visitors should have had a second spot kick after the break, the referee decided the foul had been committed outside the box. He was wrong, and Slyne's justified complaints weren't helped when the resulted free kick sailed over the bar.
After that it seemed inevitable that Lytham would score, and it was a great strike that put them ahead. A third home goal in stoppage time made the points safe.
