The Saddle v Quarry Bank Old Boys

6.30pm  17 April 2018

Liverpool County Premier League, Division Two
The Saddle 0 Quarry Bank Old Boys 4 (att 27)

Quarry Bank Old Boys took another step to completing their league season with a 100% record intact thanks to two goals in each half away to The Saddle.

I expected a closer game, as just 10 days ago The Saddle had beaten Quarry Bank in a cup semi-final, but they were disappointing in a first half that was dominated by the visitors.

The second period was closer, but despite making it more of a contest The Saddle rarely threatened to get back into the match. Two late goals rounded off a 15th win from 15 games for Quarry, with just five more left to play.

The Saddle play on one of the eight pitches at Clubmoor Recreation Ground, not far from Liverpool's Anfield stadium, which is visible in the distance. It's just a pitch, although a footpath runs close to one touchline providing some hard standing.

One curiosity was that both clubs were playing in Borussia Dortmund kit, Quarry Bank in the home colours and The Saddle in the away strip.

At least the game was played. The Liverpool County Premier League has been blighted by walkovers and withdrawals in recent weeks, and since I watched Liverpool Baltic v Liverpool Medics last month both those teams have folded.
