AFC Butetown v Tonyrefail BGC

2.30pm  15 April 2018

South Wales Alliance League, Division One
AFC Butetown 1 Tonyrefail Boys and Girls Club 1 (att 120)

After stopping overnight in Cardiff I had a leisurely Sunday morning before making my way to Loudon Square, close to the city centre, for a match in the middle tier of the South Wales Alliance League.

Facilities are basic, but the single pitch is railed off and there's a pair of dugouts. Hard standing is provided thanks to a footpath alongside one touchline, and being hemmed in by buildings on all sides gives an enclosed feel.

Like the previous night's game at Cardiff Hibernian, the state of the pitch didn't help the players, the first half was goalless, scrappy and not particularly memorable.

All it needed was a goal though, and after Tonyrefail broke the deadlock the game improved dramatically. Both sides had goals disallowed, and AFC Butetown sent a penalty high and wide of the goal.

But the home side had better luck when they got a second spot kick, scoring to earn a point they just about deserved for their efforts.
