Aberffraw v Y Felinheli

6.15pm  10 April 2018

Welsh Alliance, Division Two
Aberffraw 3 Y Felinheli 1 (att 28)

With the rain yet again forcing a change of plan during the day, I opted for an evening in north west Wales, in the knowledge that had Aberffaw's game been off I had a few back-up options to choose from.

There were no problems with pitch in the small village of Ty Croes though, and both teams were busy warming up on it when I arrived about 20 minutes before kick off.

I usually enjoy watching football in this part of Wales, and this visit to Anglesey-based CPD Aberffraw meant I'd completed both divisions of the Welsh Alliance for the first time.

I may not have saved the best until last, but Aberffraw's pleasant home ground has a railed-off pitch, and as well as a dugouts a couple of similar-sized shelters provide cover for spectators. There's a few benches for those who prefer to sit, and some steep grass banking gives a good elevated view.

Temporary buildings in the car park serve as changing rooms, and a snack bar sold me a welcome mug of coffee before the game got underway.

It wasn't the best of games, although it livened up considerably in the final 10 minutes. The home side scored after about 20 minutes, and it looked as if that would be enough to win a scrappy encounter.

They added a second with about eight minutes to go, but almost immediately a defensive mix up allowed Y Felinheli to reduce the arrears. The scoring wasn't over though, and a third goal for the hosts settled the game.
