AFC Kirkby v FC Pilchy

6.30pm  3 April 2018

Liverpool County Premier League, Division Two
AFC Kirkby 3 FC Pilchy 5 (att 40)

If it wasn't for artificial pitches I'd be struggling to find games to watch at the moment, and tonight it was a new 3G at Kirkby Leisure Centre that staged a match when grass surfaces would have struggled.

AFC Kirkby seem to have made a mid-season move here from their previous base, although venues in the Liverpool County Premier League are fluid at the best of times. It's a typical 3G set up, enclosed by a high fence and with floodlights that were necessary on a gloomy evening.

About two-thirds of the near side is barriered as an area for spectators, although those following FC Pilchy chose to watch from the opposite touchline.

They'll have enjoyed their evening as much as neutrals in the crowd, as their side came out on top after an excellent game. Both sides played some good football, and a goal-filled first 45 minutes ended with score at 3-3.

Some dubious goalkeeping aided the strikers, but there were some well-taken goals as well. The second half was tighter, with Pilchy netting twice more to claim the points and boost their promotion challenge.

The 3G pitch at Kirkby Leisure Centre isn't on Google Maps yet but here is a map of its location
