Football League Youth Alliance, North West Conference
Morecambe U18 2 Fleetwood Town U18 3 (att 60)
I written before about the difficulty of keeping track of youth team venues, and Morecambe have moved from place to place more than most in recent years. This season they seem to have settled on a pitch at Lancaster University.
It's a sensible location, close to their base and with a decent playing surface. It was busy when I arrived for the match, the university hosting an open day for potential students, and parking spaces were at a premium (I never discovered how to reach the pitchside car park).
Morecambe got off to a great start, taking the lead in the first minute. They looked like running away with it, but failed to make the most of their early dominance and allowed Fleetwood back into the game.
Two goals in a five minute spell put Fleetwood 2-1 up by half time, and for most of the second half they looked like holding that to the end. Morecambe had other ideas though, and drew level with 10 minutes left, only to concede a winner to Fleetwood in stoppage time.
All in all a decent game, although both sides might struggle against better opposition. Morecambe's pitch at the university is a pleasant spot, especially on a bright and sunny morning. One side, next to the elusive car park, is roped off.
