Denholme United v Halifax Irish Centre

6.15pm  11 September 2015

Halifax and District League, Division One
Denholme United 4 Halifax Irish Centre 4 (att 24)

This was the first time I've delved below the top division of the Halifax League and, while the football may not have been as high quality as the premier division, there was no shortage of entertainment at Denholme's Foster Park.

The home side took an early lead from a penalty, but it didn't take the visitors long to level. Denholme were back in front before half time, and after the break a second penalty put them firmly in control.

A fourth goal should have finished Halifax Irish Centre, but the away side had other ideas and launched a remarkable comeback. Their three goals included an own goal and the game's third penalty, and were enough to earn an unlikely point.

Foster Park is a traditional public park, complete with trees, benches, a children's playground and a bandstand, as well as a less traditional, but busy, skateboard park. No changing rooms though, so players and referee have to change elsewhere and walk to the park.

All in all a good evening out, in the last of this year's Friday night Halifax League games.
