West Midlands Christian League, Challenge Cup, Group C
Christ Church Coseley 5 Monyhull Church 2 (att 5)
The West Midlands Christian League season is complete but clubs' attention has now turned to the Challenge Cup, being played initially on a group basis.
Both these sides had won their opening matches last week, and it was second tier Christ Church Coseley who made it two wins from two against their division one opponents.
They were 2-0 up by half time, and two quick goals at the start of the second half killed off any chance of a Monyhull comeback. The visitors eventually rallied, but a fifth home goal meant the outcome was never in doubt.
A year ago, almost to the day, I watched as Christ Church Coseley lost a home game at a ground in West Bromwich. This season they've moved a few miles east to Red House Park in Great Barr.
It's a typical park pitch venue, and the park was busy with enthusiastic youngsters being put through their paces by their coaches. I wonder if any of them might be playing in the West Midlands Christian League in a decade or two.
