Bold Miners v Woolston Rovers reserves

6.30pm  9 September 2021

Warrington and District League, Division Three
Bold Miners 3 Woolston Rovers reserves 2 (att 28)

I don't normally dive this deep into the Warrington and District League, but with the nights drawing in this is likely to be my final non-floodlit midweek evening match until next spring.

I had doubts whether it'd be on given the deluge I drove through on my way to St Helens. It was still raining heavily when the game got underway, although thankfully the conditions eased during the first half.

A damp and dark evening meant the referee sensibly reduced the contest to 35 minute halves. Bold got the only goal of the opening period, but Woolston were left wondering how they'd failed to score after creating, and missing, countless chances.

The visitors finally converted a chance well into the second half, and not long later they got a second. But by then they were 3-0 down and time was against them. It set up an exciting climax but the home side held on to win.

Bold Miners play at the Bold Miners Neighbourhood Centre. Rugby League is the main sport in St Helens, and the open football pitch is next to a railed off rugby pitch.
