Yorkshire Christian League, Premier Division
Armley Christ Church 7 St George's 4 (att 12)
Only the second game I've been to in this league, in part due to the challenge of confirming details and being sure of venues.
Of the five matches scheduled for this morning, as far as I could tell two were awarded as walkovers and one of the others was reversed. But I was at least able to confirm this fixture.
Armley Church Church play at Armley Park, on a pitch that's within sight of the church they take their name from. It's just a pitch, as you'd expect at this level, but but it's a nice park and there is some grass banking around the playing area.
There was little at stake for either side, but champions Armley were looking to complete their league season unbeaten, and by doing so exact revenge on the side that had knocked them out of the league cup.
As the scoreline suggests it was great entertainment. It was 2-2 after an even first half, but in the second period the home side pulled clear. They raced into a 5-2 lead, which was harsh on St George's, before the sides traded goals near the end to finish with a remarkable scoreline.
An end of season fixture ending 7-4 might suggest that it wasn't very competitive. But this was a good game between two decent sides, and a higher standard than you might expect for a Saturday morning league.
