Gobowen Celtic v Wrockwardine Wood reserves

3pm  17 October 2015

Mercian Regional League, Division One
Gobowen Celtic 7 Wrockwardine Wood reserves 0 (att 15)

This fixture chose itself, as the only 3pm kick off, on a new ground, that I could get to after the early kick off about nine miles away in Llanymynech.

A glance at the league table suggested a home win was likely, and four Gobowen goals in the first 25 minutes put the outcome beyond any doubt.

The home side scored a fifth, from the penalty spot, before half time, and added two more in the second half. To their credit, Wrockwardine Wood put up stiffer resistance in the second half, and never stopped trying.

Gobowen is a village near Oswestry, and the football club is based on the village playing field. Changing rooms are in a building next to the car park, from where there's a slope down to the pitch which runs lengthways.
