Sunderland West End v Murton

6.30pm  5 August 2015

Wearside League
Sunderland West End 6 Murton 0 (att 85)

Easy win for West End, who on this showing are likely to do well in the Wearside League this season, while Murton are finding it tough to transition after stepping up from Durham Alliance football.

The visitors created a few half chances in the first half, but defensive lapses allowed the home side to take control with three goals in the opening 25 minutes.

After that Murton at least tightened their offside trap, which caught West End repeatedly for the remainder of the game. Three second half goals completed the rout, making it two wins in two games for the hosts, and two defeats in two for the away side.

As usual in the Wearside League, the standard of football was high. It was also good to see a decent-sized crowed watching the game, a bargain with admission costing just £2.

Sunderland West End are based at the Ford Quarry Complex, in the South Hylton area of Sunderland. A modern pavilion building houses changing rooms, a snack bar and a small area of covered standing for spectators, not that they'd get much of a view.

The pitch runs widthways immediately in front, and is railed off with a pair of sturdy dugouts on the pavilion side. Not a bad venue in August, but it's high up and exposed and might be less fun in the middle of winter.
