Tranmere Rovers U18 v Bury U18

11am  5 April 2014

Football League Youth Alliance, North West Conference
Tranmere Rovers U18 4 Bury U18 2 (att 42)

One of the challenges of attempting to visit all the country's professional youth team venues is simply keeping track of them. Tranmere began this season using their training ground at Raby Vale, where they've played Youth Alliance matches for several years, but for some reason have moved mid season to Ingleborough Road, close to Prenton Park.

The club owns the Ingleborough Road ground, and has, or had, plans to sell it for a housing development, although that's yet to come to anything.

Facilities are basic for a Youth Alliance venue. It's little more than a public park with space for three pitches, and the players change in a small and ageing pavilion near the entrance. I suspect the club's youngsters might be on the move to another home ground for next season.

From the pavilion, the pitch to the left was today, and as it has a scaffold allowing a club cameraman to film matches from a height I suspect it's the regular youth team pitch. The near side was roped off as the area for spectators.

It was the cliched game of two halves, the first was dull, the only bright spot being Bury's opening goal, a long range strike that caught an unaware keeper off his line. But the second half was fantastic entertainment.

Tranmere began the second period in fine style, quickly scoring twice to go in front. Bury soon levelled, but the home side weren't to be denied and two more goals secured their win, and completed a very enjoyable game.
