Burtonwood Albion v Windle Labour Club

6.15pm  8 April 2014

Warrington and District League, Premier Division
Burtonwood Albion 2 Windle Labour Club 2 (att 14)

It's tight at the top of the Warrington League, and Burtonwood's 89th minute penalty equaliser could be a fatal blow to Windle's hopes of catching leaders Avon Athletic.

Even worse for the visitors, they had led 2-0 with only around 20 minutes remaining, but had a player red carded for a stamping on an opponent, and couldn't hang on as Burtonwood seized their chance to get back into the game.

It had been a slow burner, with some decent football let down by poor finishing. Windle looked the better side, and went ahead thanks to a penalty midway through the second half. Within a minute they'd doubled their lead, but then came the sending off and Burtonwood's exciting comeback.

Burtonwood's venue has a surprisingly rural feel for a Warrington League ground, on the edge of the village and bordered by fields on two sides. Club officials do their bit to comply with league rules by roping off part of one touchline.
