Mount St Mary's v Hunslet Club

6.30pm 20 August 2025

West Yorkshire League, Division Two
Mount St Mary's 4 Hunslet Club 1 (att 25)

Leeds-based Mount St Mary's have returned to the West Yorkshire League this season, making a lateral move from the third tier of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

The visit of local rivals Hunslet Club, pointless from their opening three games, gave the hosts an opportunity to record their first win of the campaign. It was an opportunity they took.

Two first half goals put Mount St Mary's in control. In the second half the home side conceded an own goal to give Hunslet hope, and for a time they threatened to get back into the match.

But the home side's dominance was reasserted with two more goals, one a penalty, to round off a comfortable win.

Mount St Mary's have had different home grounds over the years. In 2009 I saw them, also against Hunslet, at what was then called the David Young Academy. They're now based close to the city centre at Co-op Academy Leeds.

There are two football pitches, one grass and one 3G. This game was played on the 3G, with spectators able to stand inside the surrounding fence. Unusually for such facilities, there's no floodlights.
