Saturday Morning Amateur League, Premier Division
Dinamo Paisley 7 East Dunbartonshire 4 (att 13)
Nine o’clock is the earliest time I’ve watched a regular league fixture, and it did feel odd arriving a ground before it was properly light. The game was a late change of plan for me, once I spotted the kick off time and the chance to combine it with nearby match at 11am.
The Saturday Morning Amateur League, which has dropped ‘Strathclyde’ from its official name, seems to be thriving. It has five divisions and is a high standard, especially the premier division.
Any game ending 7-4 is likely to be entertaining, but there was plenty of good football, from both teams, among the goals.
Dinamo Paisley looked the better side from the start, and two goals put them in control. But East Dunbartonshire had a spell in the ascendancy and two quick goals brought them level.
The home side got back in front before half time, and tightened their grip in the second period. They extended their lead to 6-2, before a flurry of late goals gave the final score an unusual look.
Venues can be fluid in Scottish amateur football, especially in and around Glasgow. This game was on a 3G pitch at Priesthill, and another game in the same league was scheduled for 11am, while I headed a few miles up the road for my second match.
