Scottish Lowland Development League, Knock Out Cup East, First Round
Bathgate Thistle U20 0 Edinburgh College U20 7 (att 32)
I'd planned a Friday trip to Scotland to see Eglinton's West of Scotland League game, but when that was moved back to Saturday afternoon I turned my attention to the Scottish Lowland Development League.
Apparently it's Britain's biggest league, with close to 100 clubs fielding teams at under 20 level. Effectively it's the nearest thing to reserve team football for the clubs involved, and most games are on Friday nights.
Bathgate play their development league games on a 3G pitch at St Kentigern's Academy in Blackburn, West Lothian. It's typical of such venues, enclosed by a high fence and with a nominal spectator area on one side.
The cup tie was one-sided, which was no surprise based on the league tables. Bathgate are at the foot of their conference, and were no match for Edinburgh College's youngsters.
The visitors were on top from the start, but it took them until midway through the first half to go in front. Having scored once more goals soon followed. They led 4-0 by half time, and added three more in a comfortable second period.
