Midland Football League, Division Three
Balsall and Berkswell 1 Leamington Hibernian 0 (att 20)
I had planned a trip to Norfolk, but with my car unexpectedly off the road I needed to find a game that was not only nearer, but also easy to reach by public transport.
Balsall and Berkswell's ground is just a short stroll from Berkswell railway station, which turned out to be surprisingly easy to get to from Manchester, via one change at Birmingham International.
It's a fairly typical set up for this level of football. There's a car park and clubhouse which serve a large sports field with room for several pitches. The main pitch is roped off, with a pair of dugouts on the far side.
It wasn't a game that will leave long in the memory, although the home side won't care after having earned three points. They scored the only goal about midway through the first half.
Balsall and Berkswell looked the better side, as expected from a glance at the league table. They came close to adding to their lead in the second half when a shot came back off the crossbar, but ultimately a single goal was enough to win.
