West of Scotland League, Division Four
Glenvale 3 Campbeltown Pupils 2 (att 30)
Most focus on the developing Scottish football pyramid has been the influx of junior clubs into the senior leagues, but a few amateur sides have also joined the ranks.
Glenvale and Campbeltown Pupils are two of them. Making the move this year earned them places in division four of the West Scotland League, a level below the leagues that were were part of the abandoned 2020/21 season.
It did feel more like watching an amateur match than a West of Scotland League game between established junior rivals. It looked like being a straightforward away win, but that was turned on its head in second half.
Campbeltown were comfortable and 2-0 up at half time, their greater experience and guile giving them an edge against a youthful Glenvale side.
But the second half was very different. The home side had a stronger edge to their game and pushed Pupils onto the back foot. Their revival was deserved, although it was harsh on Campbeltown to concede a later winner.
Glenvale are based at Ferguslie Park Sports Centre, close to St Mirren's stadium in Paisley.
It's a 3G ground with a spectator area the length of one side. It's better than some venues of its type though, with plenty of space for those watching, and a pavilion next to the pitch.
