Dorset Premier League
Westland Sports 18 Swanage Town & Herston 1 (att 147)
Yeovil-based Westland began this game knowing that maximum points from their final three league games would give them the title. Thanks to the size of this win, and defeat for rivals Hamworthy Recreation, just one more point will now be enough.
They couldn't have had it much easier this afternoon, Swanage arrived with a bare 11 players, and no one to even sit in the dugout. A red card for dissent in the wake of Westland's second goal, in the seventh minute, and Swanage effectively gave up.
The visitors scored their goal early, when they were only 3-0 behind, but within seconds it was 4-1 and by half time 12-1. Six more after the break, and, as is always the case in very one-sided games, some absolute sitters missed along the way.
Not quite the highest score I've seen - I once watched Caersws win a Montgomeryshire Cup match 19-1 at Trewern United - but I don't think I've ever seen a side score 12 before half time before.
Westland are clearly a good side, and some of the goals where the sort of finishes you'd expect to see at a high level, but it does help if the opposition offers so little resistance.
Having been to Westland's previous ground I still think of Alvington Lane as new, although they've been here a few years now. The playing surface was immaculate, and it's a neat and tidy ground with a small covered area in front of the pavilion.
