12 midday 5 May 2012
Somerset County League, Premier Division
St George Easton-in-Gordano 1 Taunton Blackbrook 1 (att 44)
Lunchtime kick offs on FA Cup Final day have long been a useful way of either getting to two games in a day, or watching a live game before getting home to watch the action on TV.
Quite why a number of clubs persisted with early kick offs today ahead of Wembley's ludicrous 5.15 kick off is anyone's guess, but I was glad they did.
This was an entertaining start to the day, amid the picturesque surroundings of St George's Court Hey ground, a railed off pitch looked over by Easton-in-Gordano's church (St George's, naturally).
Sadly for the home side, the result probably condemns them to relegation. They led 1-0 at half time, having had the better of a lively first half.
They'd probably have held on to win if it wasn't for two red cards late in the game. With a numerical advantage the visitors, who in reality may or may not be Taunton Town's reserves, got an inevitable equaliser. They couldn't find a winner though, despite several clear chances on the break as the home side continued to go forward in search of what might have been a crucial winner themselves.
