Isthmian League, Division One North Play Off Final
Enfield Town 1 Needham Market 0 (att 817)
Play off finals are rarely classic games, and the pressure of this occasion, coupled with both sides' energy sapping semi finals, probably contributed to a rather lacklustre 90 minutes at Enfield's newish home, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
Enfield were the better side on the day and deserved the win, especially having finished just one place, and one point, from the division's only automatic promotion place.
The only goal game after 17 minutes, and Needham Market created little more than a handful of half chances, and a penalty appeal that might have been given, but from where I was standing was correctly turned down.
Apart the marvellous main stand, albeit rather distant from the pitch, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium isn't a great venue. But after a turbulent few years it's good Enfield now have a ground to call their own, a strong fan base, and a chance to rebuild a club that should thrive in the higher levels of non League football.
Also worth a word to praise the match programme ... a professional-looking production and good value for £2, particularly with so little time since the play off semi finals.
