West Yorkshire League, Division One
Brighouse Old Boys 1 Old Headingley 0 (att 31)
A crucial match for Brighouse at the top of the league, although apart from the celebrations of their late winner you'd have been hard pressed to guess that.
The win keeps Brighouse on course for promotion, and with a chance of winning the title, but they made hard work of beating mid table Old Headingley, who battled well despite having nothing to play for.
The visitors deserved a draw, and until the home side's 73rd minute goal looked liked they'd get it as chances were few and far between. Brighouse had come close in the first half, hitting the inside of the post, but a goalless draw seemed a likely outcome.
Brighouse's pitch, fully railed off but with no other facilities, is north of the town at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe School. Like a number of "school" venues I've been to recently, this was barely recognisable as a school at all, being in effect, in the evenings at least, a community sports centre.
