Moulton v Holmer Green

3pm 10 April 2023

Spartan South Midlands League, Division One
Moulton 7 Holmer Green 3 (att 47)

This was to have been be my second game of a day that would have begun further south. Sadly though Hersham's 11am kick off in the Surrey Premier County League was postponed, as I discovered when I got there.

It was one of many south east matches claimed by the rain, and rather than risk another weather-related cancellation I settled on the relative security of a 3G pitch at Moulton.

As 3G venues go the Brunting Road ground is quite good. Spectators can access three sides, with just one end out of bounds. There's a seated stand near the entrance, and a clubhouse and car park complete a neat venue.

On the pitch it was a strange game. Moulton were 3-0 ahead after just 15 minutes, when it looked as if Holmer Green were already looking forward to the end of the season.

The visitors got the game's next goal, conceded a fourth, then reduced the deficit again, all before half time. More goals followed after the break, with the home side maintaining a healthy lead. Despite the goals it felt like a low key fixture.
